Service Issue - Linode Manager and API - All Regions

Incident Report for Linode

Postmortem

Starting at around 10:30 UTC on September 13, 2025, Akamai became aware of intermittent failures for Linode API requests (5xx errors). Compute users may have experienced 500 Internal Server Errors while interacting with all services via Cloud Manager and the API.

The investigation revealed that our API services were experiencing certificate issues at that time, and the requests that went to those API services with expired certificates were impacted. To mitigate the issue, we removed the impacted servers from service.

The impact was mitigated at around 00:42 UTC on September 14, 2025 when the certificates issues were resolved and the impacted servers were eventually returned to service.

This summary provides an overview of our current understanding of the incident given the information available. Our investigation is ongoing, and any information herein is subject to change.
